Q 1: What does the Quran say about tolerance?
Ans: Sayings of the Holy Quran about tolerance:
The literal meaning of tolerance is “to bear”. It means to tolerate the acts and deeds of the people. Tolerance is the basic principle of Islam. Some sayings of the Holy Quran about tolerance are given below.
1- “In fact, Allah’s help is with those who are tolerant”. (Al-Baqarah)
2- “Surely successful people are those who adopted piousness and tolerance”. (Yousaf)
3- “In fact, tolerant people will be given reward without measure”. (Al-Zumar)
Q 2: The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was a man of extraordinary endurance? Explain.
Ans: Endurance and patience of the Holy Prophet (SAW):
In the whole history of mankind, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the most perfect example of tolerance and patience. He led a life full of patience, kindness, forgiveness, and ‘tolerance. He neither abused someone nor took any sort of revenge. In Thaaef, when He (SAW) was lapidated and was bled, He (SAW) prayed for the people in return. He (SAW) was exiled from Makkah but after the conquest of Makkah, He (SAW) forgave all His enemies. That’s why Quran describes Him a Rehmatul-Lil-Aalameen (mercy unto the whole mankind and universe). When he was chosen prophet, He (SAW) was single with so much opposition, but He (SAW) succeeded due to His extraordinary patience and endurance.
Q 3: How did the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) treat the people of Makkah after victory?
Ans: Treatment with the people of Makkah after the victory:
Due to the extreme cruelties of the people of Makkah, the Holy Prophet (SAW) had migrated to Medina. When the Muslims conquered Makkah, the enemies of the Prophet (SAW) were very frightened as they had their cruel deeds in their mind which they had done to the Prophet (SAW) before. But the Prophet (SAW)
granted a general amnesty to the entire population of Makkah and no house was robbed, no man or woman was insulted by the Muslim army.
Q 4: Why was the Rabbi asking for the repayment days before the loan was due?
Ans: The reason due to which the Rabbi was asking for the loan before:
Rabbi Zaid Ibn Sanah was asking for the repayment days before the loan was due because he wanted to test the tolerance of the Holy Prophet (SAW). He grabbed the Prophet’s (SAW) cloak and asked the Holy Prophet (SAW) ‘harshly about his loan. But the Holy Prophet (SAW) repaid that harsh treatment with kindness and told Hazrat Umar (RA) to give the Rabbi twenty Sa’a of dates extra because Hazrat Umer (RA) had scared the Rabbi for his misbehavior.
Q 5: What does the tolerance of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) teach us?
Ans: The teachings taught by the tolerance of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW):
The tolerance of the Holy Prophet (SAW) teaches us that we should bear the attitude, negative remarks, and harsh behavior with patience and calmness. We should never leave patience and tolerance in both cases whether we are superior or inferior. This will give us respect and success. Our Holy Prophet (SAW) has practically taught us that we must follow the principles of tolerance, forgiveness, and patience in every field of life.
Q 6: What was the effect of Hazrat Muhammad’s (SAW) kindness on the Rabbi?
Ans: The effect of Hazrat Muhammad’s (SAW) kindness on the Rabbi:
The Rabbi misbehaved the Holy Prophet (SAW) and asked for his loan before the given time. Hazrat Umer (RA) got angry due to his misbehaviour towards the Prophet (SAW) but the Prophet (SAW) stopped Hazrat Umer (RA) from being harsh to the Rabbi and asked him to give the Rabbi twenty Sa’a of dates extra because of making the Rabbi frightened. The Rabbi was so inspired and touched with the kindness of the Holy Prophet (SAW) that he accepted Islam.
Q 7: What is the main idea of the lesson?
Ans: The main idea of the lesson:
The main message and idea of the lesson are that tolerance, kindness, and patience were the principles of the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) whose life is a role model for us. Through these, we can conquer the things which we can’t conquer with sword and we can rein people’s hearts. If we want to live with peace and love, tolerance and kindness are the keys to shape such a peaceful society.
